Country Music School of Excellence (CMSOE) student and AICM member Linc Phelps recently had the "best week of his life" attending Camerata in Tamworth. According to one of his tweets (on Twitter for the unitiated) he experienced "an intense 6 days! Had the best time! learnt more than i could ever imagine and rocked the concert last night!"
While in Tamworth, Linc and his mother had the opportunity of rubbing shoulders with the big names in the country music industry and hear first hand about life in the music industry. Linc won a scholarship to Camerata as a result of his performances with the AICM band "The Institute" while in Tamworth in January. Promoter and Camerata organiser Joan Douglas was greatly impressed with Linc and helped make his trip to Tamworth possible. "I think he is a very special young man" said Joan.

Budding Gympie songwriters have been fortunate to be able to attend songwriting workshops led by professionals. The Music Generator program was funded by Arts Queensland, facilitated by Education Queensland and Q Music and organised and presented in Gympie by the AICM. Industry professionals Jackie Marshall and Chris Dale will spend a total of six days in the community passing on tips and tricks to a select group of Gympie students.
The course is catering for primary and secondary school students and runs for a total of six days broken into 2 groups of 3 days, July 27, 28, 29 and August 10, 11, and 12. The primary students attend from 9am to 12 noon while the secondary students attend from 2 to 5pm.
While they are anly half way through the course, both Jackie and Chris are impressed by quality of music being created by the students. The primary students have already written a song called "Hey bully" and are recording it in the AICM studio. The secondary students are all writing songs and it is hoped to have them recorded at some time in the future.

The AICM Certificate III students had a great opportunity to speak with a successful overseas musician last Thursday. Tony Coram lives and works in Liverpool UK and is both a musician and a teacher. He plays in a band called The Real Kicks and also teaches at the Knowsley Community College in Liverpool. The course he teaches is very similar to the Cert III in Music offered in Gympie and Tony was interested to see the kind of work that is being done in Gympie.
The Real Kicks have just released their fourth album and Tony was keen to share with the students his experiences in putting together and promoting that album. Special thanks to Aaron for bringing Tony to Gympie for the afternoon.

Thanks Debra
Unfortunately for all associated with the AICM, Debra Powell has had to resign because she is moving south of the border. Debra has been in the AICM office for very close to a year and she will be greatly missed.
Debra is the person to whom most of the visitors to the AICM spoke to first, and as well as keeping the office running efficiently, she has spent much of her time with us organising the paper work, keeping the money accounted for and designing the publicity material that has promoted the AICM so positively.
On behalf of everybody associated with the organisation, its a big thank you to Debra and our wish that everything she does in the future will be successful.
