Certificate II takes off

Students from the first Cert II program with Dr Geoff Walden

Last week the Certificate II program began at the AICM building. The students involved will further their skills on their individual instrument, while learning how to play as part of a band and developing their improvisational skills.

The Cert II course lasts for a year and we are keen to start a second group. So if you play guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, or fiddle (we have a waiting list of drummers) and would like to be part of the Cert II, contact Debra at the AICM. For more information on the Cert II program, check out our website.

NfS - promoting your music

Mike Smith from NfS Publicity shows Cert III students one of his promotional CDs

Students from the Certificate III program welcomed Mike Smith from NfS Publicity to their class last week. He talked to the students about how artists can promote their music, and spoke generally about the state of country music in Australia.

As well as running NfS, Mike is also a consulting editor to Capital News based out of Tamworth so he was able to share with students a commanding knowledge of the country music industry both in Australia and in America.

NfS circulates sample CD's to hundreds of radio station in Australia bi-monthly. Each album contains a single track from each of 20 artists who pay a fee to be included on the album. After the talk Mike gave the students copies of the albums.

Nick in the CM news

Nick makes the news twice this edition. The first resulted from his successful entry in a song writing competition run in conjunction with the launch of Hot Country Kingaroy 1071 AM. The photos above show Nick receiving his prize money (a cheque that is much too big for his wallet) and cracking a joke with Hot Country staff while doing a radio interview.

The photos below show Nick with his prizes as a result of competing at the Bundaberg Country Music Festival which was held over the Easter weekend. With Nick in the RH photo is another Gympie competitor and rising star Brody Holmes. Both young men won a first and a second and Nick went on to win the Most Outstanding Performance award.
