The dream of many associated with the AICM Gympie took a step closer to becoming reality on Friday 6th of March with the visit to Gympie by Professor Kyunghee Lee, CEO of Syndey's Australian International Conservatorium of Music (AICM Sydney). Prof Lee travelled to this part of the world to discuss with AICM board President Gerry Crotty and AICM Manager Dr Geoff Walden the possibility of AICM Gympie partnering with AICM Sydney in offering at least part of a tertiary degree level qualification in Gympie.
Gympie impressed Prof Lee as a friendly country town with good access to the larger population centres of Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast and therefore highly suitable to as a place in which to extend their opertaion.
In general, agreement was reached that AICM Gympie would partner with AICM Sydney to offer and teach a two year Diploma in Music Performance with a focus on country music. There is much paperwork and organisation to be completed but if all goes to plan, the first post tertiary students will be studying in Gympie in Semester 1 2010.

The AICM is fortunate to be supported by the Gympie RSL. Students and members of AICM groups have the opportunity to gain work experience in the venue on the first Wednesday of each month. In return, the RSL donates $2 from each meal sold on the night to the AICM.
The above photos were all taken by Reg Lawler. Each Wednesday night, Reg is at the RSL with his camera and new flash to take photos which are then stored on the internet for future reference. Click here to see the 60 or so photos he took on Wednesday 4th March 2009. They can be downloaded and all are or sufficient resolution to be printed on an A4 sheet or even larger. Thanks Reg.
Certificate II auditions start
Auditions for the Certificate II in Music begin this week. We encourage students who have some skills on guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums or fiddle to consider signing up for this program. It is about encouraging members to develop their improvisational skills. For more information, please email Debra or phone her on 5481 2355.

American Country Greats Tribute

The students and staff of Gympie State High School's Country Music School of Excellence (CMSOE) are presenting a tribute to the American Country Music Greats in Hamilton Hall on Friday March 27th at 7.00pm. Songs from artists such as Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Hank Williams, Charlie Pride, Merel Haggard, Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Willy Nelson will be preformed.
The show has been presented twice before, at last year's Muster and to a sell out crowd in Tamworth this year. It is a great show so don't miss a great night of entertainment featuring songs that you know and love. For more information contact Ron Junggburt at Gympie High.
